The Album

The logbook gives the dates and the places. The photographs give the rest. Anyone in the family can add to this — and every photograph you tag with a ship or a port appears on that page too, beside the entries it belongs with.

Add a photograph

Anything at all — a ship, a port, a crew, a postcard he sent home. Only the photograph itself is needed; the rest can be filled in later, or by somebody who remembers.

Things that would be wonderful to have

  • Any photograph of the ships themselves, at sea or alongside.
  • Crew photographs — the men he sailed with, on deck or ashore.
  • Postcards and letters sent home from Ras Tanura, Curaçao or anywhere else on the chart.
  • His certificates, discharge book, or any page of the original logbook itself.
  • Photographs of David at home between voyages.
